Hello, Even if I don't use it myself, a friend of mine uses another cheap ligth source to get fringes for testing flats. The light comes from the screwdrivers you use to test if there is electricty. I don't know if they are the same in the USA, because here in France we have 220 V instead of 110 V. If it works it is even cheaper than a laser pointer. Eric
