I've found a recycling place that will sell scrap
aluminum to me for $1 / lb   It is very good stuff;
comes from various machine shops.

If I could only find those shops and buy direct from
them, I could get it even cheaper...

So, I think that you should also check with machine
shops to see if they have scrap that they would be
willing to sell cheap.  Odds are that they are selling
it to a recycling place for cheap.
