First let me thank you for all the replies and
suggestions!
Well, I have a second solution in mind, but
couldn't supply pictures because I didn't got the required 40x4mm
tubes yet. This will work similiar to what Frank suggested, the carbon
poles will be put into short pieces of 40x4mm aluminum tubes. The carbon
poles could be held in place either by compression of the 40mm tubes or by a
screw.
I now think this is the superior
solution.
BTW different thermal expansion of the parts
is no problem. That was one of my first concerns and I tested it by
putting pieces in the deep freeze.

I'm using 34x3mm square tubing. Like you, I feared
that 3mm is too thin for adequate threaded holes, but it works nicely and is a
very lightweight structure.

from the home page either.
That's right and that's the reason why I only gave
this specific link. The page is still in its infancy and not all links
are working right now. I'll update it soon and let you know when it's
ready for the public.
Best regards
