ATM sockets and truss-poles

A tapered socket has the advantage of a zero-clearance fit. Such as the
center in
the tail-stock of a lathe. The problem being it will always seek a tight
fit. So its length
will always vary. A straight socket affords good location characteristics,
but can be loose.
I think the best of both worlds would be a split-block with tightening bolt
allowing for
location and good friction grabbing pressure.Materials like alum, maple, or
delrin are
good choices as they can be worked up in a wood shop and are light.
There are other ways. This is only one of many.
