This technology is a by product of the "Star Wars" project.
All-metal mirrors are useful for redirecting high power
lasers, the substrate has high conductivity & can be
effectively with liquids & other methods. The thermal
gradients are much reduced so the mirror distorts less as well.
It certainly would make it simpler, for ATM's, to control
the temperature of their optics near ambient air..:)
IIRC the interferometer controlled turning accuracy capability is something
like 1/2 wave surface im ~24" diameter, good for IR but not
visual. It's not be cheap because of the high cost of the tooling
and low quantities needed.
