ATM Re: 25" scope
Hi all,
Ok, I have been following all the talk about PLOP and mirror cell designs.
Now that it seems that everyone is done arguing I have a question for all:
I have just acquired a second hand Galaxy 25" mirror (2" thick) that I am
going to build a mount for. If I build a mirror cell as per Berry-Kriege
(the 27 point one), does anyone realistically think that their will be a
performance difference (over a
PLOP designed cell), that can be detected with the human eye or photographic
means???? John Hudek (Galaxy optics) says no. I respectfully question
whether
this is a case of amateurs getting carried away. So my question to all is
should
I stick with the Berry-Kriege design???
Also, as for the secondary size on this scope, of course I, as all, want the
best of both worlds. A 4" diagonal has a 16% obstruction and a 3.5" is 14%.
I would prefer to go with the 4" but I do a lot of planetary observing. Will
this
2% increase in obstruction really be noticeable in the eyepiece??? The 4" is
still well below 20% obstruction.
Thank you to all who respond.
