I hogged  out the curve of my 650 mm (25.5") f/4.3 by hand and yes,
definetely I agree
with you. At this level it becomes the less interesting part of the job,
and makes aches in arms&
back and rips off hands' skin... One alternative for relatively big blanks
(I guess
the 21" spoken about could enter this category) is the method used by Jeff
Baldwin
for his 40": sand blasting. Remember his 40" f/4(?) curve was roughly
generated in
one day!
