ATM Comet-Hunter scope- a few points
Hi,
In my quest of finding a perfect telescope for Comet
Hunting, I got to a conclusion that there is no thing
such as a perfect "Comet-Hunter".
I started with the idea of having a telescope with a
very big field of view, and that will be easy to
"sweep", when searching for Comets. The design that I
came up is was simple: 16" f/4 Dobsobian, and on it an
8" f/4.
Then, Richard Shcwartz noted that if I'm doing Comet
Hunting, I may as well also use photography. The
design I had fitted this, but I had a problem- how,
why, & again how? How can I track on a comet? What
does this help me for etc. etc. Any help would be
happily exepted..
Then Dominic said I might want to build a Cassegrain.
i think Gregorian innovation, and also a in the bottom
of the tube, like a newtonian, so I don't need to do a
hole in the primary. Why is this better than
Newtonian? bigger field? Better for photography?
And finnaly, comes the Schmidt, a Spherical mirror, an
aperture-reducer, and a curved-film holder which I
don't know how to build and if I can.
So, I'm really messed up. And I'll tell you what I
want- Biggest field as possible, photography abilities
( that's what everybody says my scope should have. But
I don't know who to make it practical when thinking of
comet hunting), smallest size as possible (well,
na...), and a Dobsonian mount- very important for
"comet sweeping".
Help! Thanks, Asaf.
