You can use a diamond wet saw of the type commonly used by tile
setters. You can rent these in some places. Just cut a square
around your desired circle. Then cut the corners off to form an
octagon. Then cut the corners off that, etc... until you are quite
close to a circle.
Next, get a flat aluminum plate about 6" diameter with a 1/8" hole in
the center. Attach that to your glass with the hole at the center.
Make a jig for your drill press such that the hole rides on a conical
tit with the edge of the glass supported by furniture castors.
Get one of those diamond grinding bits, and chuck it up in your drill
press. You may cool with water if it is your drill press. But if it
is your dad's drill press, you better use turpentine. For this
application, you need REAL turpentine, not that petroleum distillate
stuff from Home Depot.
Just rotate the glass by hand against the diamond grinder. Take light
cuts, and you will have a perfect circle.
