You are right Hugues, but don't forget that adptative optics that correct
most of the atmospheric turbulence are now available and in a few years big
telescopes like the ESO's VLT could work in interférometric mode even with
visual wave lenght...
Then it will not be worth sending a telescope in space for IR& visual wave
lenght, and the real advantage of space astronomy will be UV astronomy
(because UV is absorbed by atmosphere)
