ATM 24.5 inch binoculars or?(long)
Greetings All
Opinions wanted:
I baught a 24.5 inch pyrex blank several years ago from a scientific surplus
dealer in Detroit which in its previous life had been an optical flat used
by a military contractor. In pristine condition, this would have cost a
fortune, but the glass was scratched and chipped in many places, some of the
chips extended more than 1/4 inch into the glass. There were even larger
chips around the edge circumference. I offered 100 dollars to the gentelman
and he accepted. My plan was to cut the glass into 2 24.5 disks, each having
one useable side (the one I cut). I felt this would take me a few weeks. 2
years later, and 3 homemade cutting machine designs later, the job was done.
The blank had been 5 inches thick but since the edge imperfections forced me
to make my cut off center, I now had 1 blank of 1.5 inch and one of 3. 25
thickness.I am nearing completion of the 1.5 inch optic which will be around
f 4.5. My question to the list is should I make the other blank a f 8 high
resolution scope (parachute included)as originally planned or, make it the
same 4.5 and turn it into a binocular? Any thoughts?
Many Thanks,
Dave
