A single edged razor blade. Removing the back will help you get it into
tight spots.

NO!
The typical evaporated aluminium coating is from a few hundard angstroms to
a thousand or so angstroms thick. Even these dimentions are not ideal as
they can take a 1/10 wave mirror to a 1/4 wave mirror if the coating is not
uniform. Coatings less than 100 angstroms thick, however, are not opaque.
It is possible to chemically silver a mirror your self with very little
equipment, but for just one mirror its unlikely you'll save any money.
Still the discussion of silvering continues on the list. Some people sware
a freshly scratch up siliver coating (oops, I mean seated of course) will
beat the run of the mill 88% reflective al coating anyday.
