Hi Jim
 Although not quite 3000 mcd, the Panasonic blue LEDs show
typical 1500 mcd for a 15 degree blue LED. Digi-Key sells
them for $4.31us each. I bought an orange LED from Radio
Shack the other day rated at 6000 mcd but haven had time
to wire it up to try it.
 The blue LEDs will require at least a 6 volt power source
because of the higher run voltage.
