A great article showing how to make a slittless tester can be found in
Sky & Tel of January 1967, page 45. The article shows the use of a prism
and a razor blade. I have recised mine to use a LED with the razor blade
in front of it (1/2 covered) and patruding above enough to get your eye
behind the blade. So the mirror has to be tilted up ever so slightly to
see the returned light come.
