I agree with the remarks about stereo. What really makes the binocular
viewing useful is that, when you merge the view with two eyes, your brain
tends to cancel out any random noise which appears thru only one eye. Try
sometime to read marginally small print, first with one eye, then with the
other and finally with your two eyes. The effect can be quite dramatic.
For an even more convincing trial, put on an eye patch and spend the rest
of the evening doing what ever as a person who is blind in one eye.
