Cleaning and a Question

Based on my experience with photography, be careful when used "tap water"
for any of the steps, including the initial cleaning (pre-distilled water).
Particularly well water. It is amazing how much grid can be present in
unfiltered water. At about 90 cents/gallon, consider using distilled
water for all steps.
The question: I have found a couple of small, thin scratches near the edge
of my mirror. Should I 1) Leave them alone 2) paint them out with india
ink or such?. As best I can understand, they would compromise contrast
probably by an insignificant amount. Opinions? TIA,
