In general these are very good recommendations, but be careful with #2. There are (were?) some serious math errors in this book that I found when I reviewed it and that Alan Gee found when he reviewed it. If you make a design from this book you should back it up with another source to be certain! Otherwise it is a very inspirational and informative book. Especially the section that discusses the matching of eyepiece designs with the specific instrument's residual abberations and petzval curvature.
