Heres what I learned from a old pro (Jerry Logan) and it works for me.
Get a disk the size of your mirror ( the back of the mirror or tool will do)
and cover it with aluminum foil. Make a paper collar around the disk.
I spray Pam on the foil. Now pour your pitch on the foiled disk about 1/4"
deep. After the pitch is solid but not totaly cold remove the pitch with
the foil and lay it on a bees waxed tool foil side up. The foil can now be
peeled off. Put some wax paper on the mirror and lay the pitched tool on top.
Let set for some time as over night. The pitch will stick to the bee wax.
Next step:
DO THIS OUTSIDE if are married and want to stay that way. Use lots of cold
water. Lay a streight edge on the pitch and mark the edge of the channels with
the back side of a single edge razor (1/8" to 3/16") Scar them hard.
Cut the channels a little at a time with the razor, takes a little practice.
1/8" is deep enough. Now do the hot or cold press as the book says and you
on your way.
I can tell you horror stories about making pitch laps.
