At the Chabot Workshop, Alan Takahashi constructed a 6" f4 (I believe f/4)
which used a half thickness mirror, and a simple "tube" made out of two
end rings, and two cross truts of titanium (light but sturdy) holding them
apart. The resulting telescope was quite light and portable.
Horace Dall made a 6" Dall-Kirkham which weighed only a couple of pounds and
could be folded up to fit in a coat pocket. In Telescope Making Magazine,
someone (Cox maybe?) made smaller 3.5" ones of the same design. Really
quite cute.
I can look up some references and maybe get Alan to write something up
if there is sufficient interest.
