The first two thoughts that come to mind are the Edmund Astroscan (the
red "ball" telescope), or something like University Optics 80mm
refractor kit (500mm FL) and a camera tripod. The UO-80 could be wrapped
in a sheet of foam which might make it a bit bulky, but it is light and
only 19.5 inches long. With the UO-80, I was able to detect SL-9 impact
spots on Jupiter last summer, using a 7.5mm Plossl.
