Check out local machine tool dealers. They often have used machines that
were taken as trade-ins or for consignment. Small lathes go for premium
prices because everyone wants a small lathe. Another source is
auctions. School districts sometimes auction off tools when they close a
school or upgrade machines. You should do your homework before buying a
used machine so you don't get burned. Industrial machines are usually
three phase and 220 or 440 volt. You can run a three phase motor with
single phase service, but you need a phase converter which will cost a
few bucks to buy and install.
