Yep, depends upon your frame of reference, I guess!
The transformer for doing a drive corrector doesn't need to be
that big as it is only doing a few watts of power. A 1 amp
output output transformer is more than sufficient for that job
but it is a very common size at the experimenter's corner of
Radio Shack at the time. The center tap windings made it easy to
do the differeential drive to the center tap's connection to the
power of the battery.
