Re: [ATM] ATM: Are HTML emails allowed on this list, if about atm-ing?
David,
Thank you for your input, here. I already know that they are not allowed; in
fact, I knew when I asked.
The reason I asked is that one of our venerable, very experienced and
talented members accidentally posted an HTML email here; I suspected he had
done it purely by accident, but inasmuch as I like HTML emails, as one can
be much more expressive with them (pictures, plenty of them, larger,
different kinds of formatting- you know, like in Microsoft Word 2002, for
instance) I wanted to reply in the same manner; but then, I decided not to
reply with an html email, and my friend, who accidentally posted one this
morning, understood why I asked the question, and replied off list; his
first words were: "Sorry...." so I knew he had just made a simple mistake.
However, if you think HTML emails are inappropriate altogether:
> In my personal opinion, HTML is for web pages not e-mail.
then, I suggest you are missing out on a very wonderful thing. I am a web
page builder, myself; I do not use drag 'n drop editors, or other automatic
tagging devices, formatting softare, but taught myself how to program HTML
by hand, using one of the text editors that one finds on any of the myriad
PCs in use today, sort of like how I taught myself to fly conventuional
landing gear aircraft; this is not a brag, but it is a statement that HTML
email has its uses; I know why it is not used here; it takes up a lot of
space on the hosting service software for the forum list text (let alone
pictures). But, I disagree with you that HTML is only for web pages.
Perhaps you would like to have an example, off list, of what a nicely done
HTML email, with large pictures of historic astronomical instruments in it,
would look like? No? Okay.
Be well-

my signature for HTML emails.)
P.S.-I am the list moderator for an email discussion forum, that uses the
same (identical) software program Micheal and Ken's list, does, here. It is
hosted by one of our ATM list members, a long time expert and gentleman; and
he uses EXACTLY the same software for my literary club email forum as we do
here; and he allows "Rich Text HTML" messages. (?!?!?!) With gobs of
pictures!!!!!!!
