That hits the nail on the head!

The (square of the) wave equation describes the probablility to find a 
particle on a certain place on a certain time, for all kinds of particles 
(including photons).

This is exactly what you see when you expose a photosensitive layer with the 
result of a two slit experiment. The photons will interact with the layer 
only in distinct spots, but the density distribution of the spots will obey 
the wave equation.

See also for example the experiments of Alain Aspect e.a., which have been 
repeated by others, many times, in different setups.
