So, if the features are so pronounced, I'd expect them to be visible in
shearing light as well. Or has the mirror a coating which has locally
changed composition?
Have you tried the mirror in your interferometer?
About the reflection from the back: light intensity should be much
decreased. Suppose 4% is reflected, then the intensity of backside
reflection is only about 4% of the front reflection. However, I can imagine
that when you cut off most of the front reflection, backside reflections
scattered from artefacts may become visible.
