When do you notice the edge turning? During figuring?
It is always better when spherical, and it gets worse the farther from a
sphere, but they aren't awful turned down.... I usually still have a
diffraction ring all around, but I would like to do better. I have seen
better, in a few cases.
It is difficult to determine what is to be expected. Most of the mirrors I
have tested are mine or people I have helped make a mirror. There should be
no surprise theirs would look like mine. They did what I said. I said what I
do.
When people post pictures on the internet, it is mostly showing the bad edge
they are trying to fix. There are not so many pictures of the finished
mirror edge. How good did they get it? I have no idea.
I have seen a few examples on the net of mirrors that seemed to have
virtually perfect edges. But only a few. It would seem to me that those who
make the great edge would be more likely to post a picture of the finished
mirror.
I can think of a couple of ways that would probably make a near perfect
edge, but they might actually be more trouble than just masking it.
I have on occasions had very good edges but it is not something I can just
do at will.
I have paid attention to some comments on the list and atm_free and have a
couple of things to try when I get some glass to the polishing and figuring
stage. The search continues.
