[ATM] Gordon Tulloch's web page (optical bench)

To all:

Gordon Tulloch has put together a nice page about my big optical bench that
I used to test mirrors up to 25" aperture on. It was enormously convenient,
allowing me to take a mirror off of the work stand, test it, and then get it
back on to the work stand again very quickly; this was made possible by the
set-up of the optical bench which allowed me to replace the mirror and spend
almost no time whatever to get it aligned with the tester.

I used to have a copious quantity of pictures of this huge instrument, but
they all got discarded, with about 90% of all my other photodocumentation of
my atm-ing activitities. Any questions will of course be answered.

The neatest thing about it was how I got it to track in the Y axis (to and
away from the mirror stand) without runout any larger than one thousandth of
an inch, FOR PENNIES.

Unfortunately, I did not (have not) drawn pictures of the clever little
gimmick I invented to get the tester's slit exactly on the optical axis and
make it stay there. Maybe sometime. With explanation. Maybe.

Dave

P.S.-

Huge Thanks, Gordon-

And thanks to all of you guys who have expressed interest in what I have
done while I was "Great Plains Instruments".
