[ATM] ATM: "Fat Download"

To those who requested short articles:

Due to the req'ment of adequate illustrations, one word doc. (And perhaps
one html email) on area formatted figuring came to over one megabyte; all I
can say is be patient if you have a not so fast connection.

I duplicated one document by copying and pasting into an email message
window, and also attached it as a Word 2000 doc. so that those of you who
might not have word, and also those of you who might not be able to see the
photographs in the email window, will have best chances of getting it one
way or the other. The article is the seminal, introductory piece, so I
thought you would all want it.

I cannot believe how many wanted the articles; that's why I shotgunned them
out all at once- I can hardly keep up with you guys who are requesting them!

I went to the files area and noticed that I may not upload illustrated
files; this is a shame; I think it unlikely that an illustration in an
article would contain a virus, so this is really a limitation that
represents a real crippling of the files area (perhaps I do not know how the
files area works; but I got the impression that illustrations may go one
place (picture files) and text only, in another place. Maybe I do not
understand- I am pretty wooden headed about many things.

I have a friend who says anyone who is serious about using a computer for a
wide variety of applications should have a broadband connection; they do
spoil you once you have one, and my cable connection (lightning fast- 4
megabytes per second) does't cost much more than some pretty crummy
connections. AOL is awful, and for a few pennies more, one can get cable
(even better than DSL).

There was just a huge list of you guys who requested; I would have been days
getting everything out to you.

So my profound PROFOUND APOLOGIES if some of you get "locked up" for a
little while in a download; however, I think you will find it worth the
wait.

Dave

P.S.- If one or more of you needs to beat me up on the list for the largish
email, go ahead- I can take it. I have to spend a lot of time caring for my
terminally ill wife; just can't keep up.
