[ATM] Re: zulu laps,figuring ,etc.....
Jeff-
I'll send you the documents, and then you will understand indexing, when
using the classic overhang method with the full sized tool to parabolize.
Basically, it is a method of keeping track of where you begin and where you
stop when working the mirror in sectors, working the mirror out to one side,
and then coming back to center (or, if your preference is to work the mirror
clear past center on your way back from overhang on the other side so that
you can work the opposite sector). Without some kind of indexing procedure,
you may stop somewhere after OVERLAPPING where you started, or STOPPING
SHORT one or more sectors; many have made wonderful mirrors without worrying
about this- however, one of Americas most brilliant astronomical optician
does this, and so I think I could learn from a master, so I developed my own
system of indexing. Some just put dot on the rim of the mirror, and a dot on
the stand; but I prefer a little bit more rigorous method. Everyone who
knows me claim that I pursue perfection seeking to a pathological level; in
fact, I do have a medical condition for which this is listed as a symptom,
so strictly speaking, they are right.
I will also send you the two or three articles on Zulu laps and their use.
Dave
