[ATM] Mirror Cell for 16x1 mirror



Several have asked me for more pictures and details of
my mirror cell.  Here are more pictures but with
little explaination.  They take awhile to load but I
compressed them about as far as I could.  Now that the
front is painted black it is harder to see, sorry.

I take no credit for any inovations.  All ideas were
found on the net.  Most of them came from Nils Olaf
Carlin.

The most difficult to see is the flex hinge. However
it is not really important.  Any normal hinge would
work under most cases I think. Even a 1/16 inch think
piece of aluminum would probably do as a flex hinge.
Total movement at the other end is only about 3/8
inch.  That is all that is needed for collimation.

The triangles and levers were designed by PLOP.
The trianges are attached to the ends of the levers by
a screw with a nut on top of the lever. The top of the
nut was given a cone shape on the lathe with a file. 
So it becomes a fulcrum at the center of the triangle.
 The levers have a threaded hole to accept the screw. 
The hole in the triangle is just big enough to slide
over the screw.  The triangles balance on top of the
nut.  The mirror at zenuth puts about a 1 lb force on
each vertex of the triangle.  That is enough to make
triangle seat and align to the mirror.  The triangles
are kept from rotating by pieces of tape attached from
one triangle to the next.  The tape was spray painted
with the rest of the cell so it does not show up in
the photo very will at all.  It looks like it is part
of the lever but is attached to the triangles and is
above the levers.

The mirror keepers are described in Kriege and Berry. 
The lateral support are 2 pegs at 90 deg with nylon
sleeves that can slide over the pegs and lower mirror
force that might develop during collimation.
