Re: [ATM] Misundedrstanding- language (grammar)

I dunno, Wing Man.

But one of Ritchey's richest practical jokes (pun, accidental) according to
Osterbrock, was when he let Chretian guide an exposure of many hours' length
on the first prototype RC scope (.5 meters; I have a nice picture of it for
any who requests it) only to tell him afterwards that the SLIDE PLATE HAD
NEVER BEEN REMOVED. Is it any wonder that he kept p-----g everyone off, no
matter where or who he worked for?

By the way, how many of you knew that it was Henri Chretian who invented and
developed, the "Anamorphic Lens" : Todao, Cinemescope, other trade names
used this wide angle projection/camera lens to make the early wide screen
movies in an attempt to protect themselves against the competition of the
newly developed invention, "television"- yes, it was the great one and only
Chretien. I saw a short clip of him, with someone else (Ritchey?) holding
the prototype "Anamorphic lens" in his hands and talking animatedly of it
(no sound in clip). When I was a theatre projectionist, I was astonished at
the size and weight of the anamorphic lens. We had to change lenses,
sometimes.

My brother, who collects motion picture projectors, has two "Simplex"
projectors, with two of these huge anamorphic lenses in them! He's down to
only about 18 projectors, including the two Simplex heads (no piers).

Dave

Chretien's anamorphic lens is still in use, after nearly 50 years, as is his
and Ritchey's wonderful Cassegrain combination, though poor G.W. never saw
it come to pass in popularity.
