[ATM] Re: 1- Astatic Mirror Cells (Was:Re: Use of bearings in(static) mirror cells)
There are some large by amateur standards astatic mirror cells, some of
their designers/builders are on this list, however, the signal to noise is
so low (or noise level is so high) in this thread that people lose any
incentive to come forward and show their accomplishments.
Here are some links to French amateur astatic cell equipped scopes .
This is a link to a 600mm (~24") aluminum scope (including apparently some
aluminum honeycomb) :

This one's to an even larger 800mm (~31") scope:

Its builder is working on a 40" . He's on this list, and could be persuaded
to show more .
Here's a pic of the Palomar 200" mirror back with the astatic levers in
place:

Mirror cell technical memo for the 8.4m LBT telescope :

ESO website has a wealth of info , including on the VLT telescope and its
primary cell+ its actuators/support/active optics:
http://www.eso.org/toc/toc.html
http://www.eso.org/projects/vlt/unit-tel/m1cellm3.html
The subject of mirror cell friction+stiction+RTV gluing pros and cons is
brought up periodically on the list, it wouldn't hurt newbies or people
looking for more precise and accurate details to search the archives . Less
than a year ago we had an indentical discussion .
best regards,
matt
