Stiction is not friction. Stiction is the change in friction wrt change in
velocity , in particular the higher friction going from static. The wet
noodle is a straw man. Some materials have much lower friction. Spring
tempered steel and better BeCu have low friction and are very suitable
flexure materials. Quartz fiber is probably the best material for lowest
frictional losses. See John Strong "Procedures in Experimental Physics".
Remember the 600 day pendulum clocks? The best metrology positioners with
nanometer repeatability and resolution use flexures.
