The problem with RTV flex joints is that they will allow the mirror to move
sideways and this causes a twist of the glass as one side is unloaded and
the other side is double loaded. A compliant hinge like Don Clement has
done works as it allows for no real resistance in one direction. I would
think that better yet is the teflon cup for a steel ball which, while it has
a little sticion, we are discussing a very small force that is easily
overcome as things move about.
