Jonathan,

Yes, the effect will be visible, mainly (I think) as a spike on one side.  I
have a filter slide on my 450mm scope that protrudes a little into the light
path.  The extra spike is noticeable.  I ran some simulations a while ago on the
diffraction effect of this filter slide.  There's no explanation, but the
results are here:

If I get some time this afternoon, I can do a similar simulation of your setup.
I can do a simulated star test, and also calculate a comparative MTF graph.
