I'll see if I can answer your questions.

Costwise is one thing to consider when building a
'scope. The other thing is size. If you live in a
small place, you're not going to want to build a large
telescope, because these nice instruments take up as
much space as a refrigerator in some cases.

I like cm, but I think in inches.

The mirror box size shouldn't be too big. You wnat to
get the light out of it somehow. 30cm for a 25cm
mirror sounds ok, but you might consider smaller, say,
27cm so you don't have as much diagonal mirror
obstruction.

Make your mirror. Costwise it may be similar to a
purchased set of optics, but you have complete control
over how good the final product really is.

The circular side (altitude) bearings should be
circular because the half of the circle you're not
using supports the part you use. Pipe fittings also
don't come in hemicircular parts.

I don't have drawings or plans, but I do have photos
of my equatorial mount in progress.

Make the mirror first, but you can make it all at once
if you can keep your mind that focused.

Um... I have to remind myself not to forget. I'll
get back to you when I remember this part.
