Subject: Making another scope. GPD, Glass Pushers Disease.

After vowing never to make a scope again, I have succumbed to the incurable

Glass Pushers Disease. I have tackled a 24" f 5.2 Newtonian and have
completed the optics

and I am presently building the drive.

The last drive I built, was 15 years ago, and was adequate for the needs of
the scope.

As I have learnt, it is totally inadequate for the 24".

I will have to get a computerised, home built drive mechanism that can run
with either

The Sky (which I would Prefer) or Starry Night.

I do have other programs, including Cartes Du Ciel.

ANY help regarding this will be GREATLY appreciated.

I am torn between a DC Servo drive and a Stepper Controlled system.

I believe the latter is a lot better to build.

My previous drive was a 220V 10 RPM motor, driven via a frequency controlled

inverter.

So, as you can see, technology has since slightly advanced.

The scope I am building is an Equatorial Fork Mount.

I learnt a lot from Gleanings for ATM's in the Sky and Telescope magazines

and found the ATM guys terrific.

Hope to hear from you soon.
