Damm, well, I guess Ill have to go back to the drawing board on my 12" 
wooden Bino-scope Im building. I have built the base, motorized it 
already..... shucks,  I guess Ill take it apart this weekend and remake it 
out of flat sheet alum, or break my bank account with composits. lol lol,

On a serious side,  Build the scope out of what you are comfy with.  If you 
can work with wood and feel good about it and can do a decent job, then use 
wood.  If you have a metal shop avalible to you and can afford to make it 
out of alum and metal, then go that route.  I personally, have a full wood 
shop, handy with electronics and computers.  So the structure will be made 
completely out of wood, look great, and work for many years to come.  most 
of all, enjoy building it, take your time, rush nothing, double check twice, 
cut once :)
