Telescope direct drive may now be possible using a new kind of piezomotor.
A piezomotor is made using PZT ceramic materials and can operate at
frequencies of 130Khz with up to 130mm/sec linear velocities. No need for
stepper motors, servo motors, worm gears, cable drives, roller drives, band
drives ,harmonic drives, or other types of gear reduction. A piezomotor can
directly move a circular disc, circular sector or produce direct linear
motion.  Some commercial companies that produce PZT piezomotors are EDO
corp., Mad City Labs Inc., Nanomotion Inc., Physik Instrumente L.P.
