Re: [ATM] Hello list, some basic question for a new Dobsonian builder
Hello!
Thanks for all of the advice so far - what a great resource this list is...
Richard mentioned that I might want to post a URL of the supplier that I
planned on buying a mirror from to see if anyone has had experience with them:
e-scopes has a 10" f/5 with a 1/10 wave and they include a secondary for
$399.00 http://e-scopes.cc/ ... Unfortunately, when you click on the "More
Info" link it doesn't work. I thought about grinding my own, but I have
two pre-kindergarten kids and a wife that works full time, so unfortunately
I don't have the time to grind (yes, that's right, a wife that works full
time while I'm busy at home building telescopes - what a deal! ;-)
For the focuser, I was going to pick up an Orion $39 job that is 2" with a
1 1/4" adaptor - seems to be a nice piece for the price.
In looking at eyepieces, I see that some companies are advertising EPs that
"work better for people who wear glasses" - I am assuming that this is
because you don't have to keep refocusing for every new person that looks
through the scope. Is it worth the extra price for an EP specially
designed for people who wear glasses, or should I just get a "regular"
plossl EP?
I decided to build my own spider, but use masonite instead of ceder
shingles. We'll see how it goes, I might end up buying a commercial one,
but I wanted to try my hand at it first...
Can't wait to get started, http://e-scopes.cc/ says they have the 10" f/5
in stock - if you think this is a reasonable mirror and price, I'm ready to
order and get started building!
Best,
Mike
