Hi Jerry,

I have a long way to go until I see my first diagonal ground, polished 
and trepanned. But I think I read somewhere (ATM Vols. 1 through 3 ?) 
that the diagonal-to-be can be pitched (sandwiched) between two pieces 
of standard window pane glass prior to embedding into plaster. This 
could prevent chipping.

I'll report as soon as I am there, it may just be some more years ;-)
