[ATM] Grinding Machine Mishap!

Last week my "irrigation" system ran out of water while grinding (at 25 
micron), and my tool started sticking. I ran over and wet down the blank, no 
trouble, but at the end of the next "wet I noticed that the sideways force 
had moved the mirror about 3/4" off center. Argh. Since I'd wind up with 
astigmatism if I didn't grind out the mistake, I went back, did an hour on 
220 grit, then down through the grits. Just polished the puppy enough to do a 
ronchi test, and sure enough, the lines are thicker on one side than the 
other!

Anybody ever make this mistake before (or am I the firs tone this boneheaded)? 
What did it take to eliminate the astigmatism?
