RE: [ATM] Achromatic Doublet Design Help
I wouldn't be much help at OSLO. I have played with it and gotten some good
results sometimes but couldn't say for sure if I could do it twice. I think
you can find some OSLO info on the ATM Free Yahoo group. There are some
simple programs that will give you a pretty good design before you will have
time to understand OSLO. You would have a good starting design to optimize
with something like OSLO. Just remember that people were making achromats
about as good as the glass allows before there were these optimization
programs.
Take a look at
http://users.rcn.com/rflrs/
Richard has a nice G-sum program that will calculate a nice achromat in a
heartbeat at
http://users.rcn.com/rflrs/Gee_Wyld.htm
Then you can see how you like it in OSLO and optimize it if you can. You
should be able to but it will probably work well even if you don't optimize.
He has a bunch of OSLO .len files. You should find most everything he has on
his page interesting and useful.
Another must see is

I have a fair Bk7/F4 design. I would send it to you but you might want to do
it yourself. I wouldn't want to cheat you out of the fun of the hunt.
Don't grind that glass yet. There is a bit of room for improvement in that
design.
