Hallo,
Perhaps he only tested for stray light. He needs a flashlight shining
on the mirror, the reflected picture of the light gathers to a picture
of the light. He covers the picture of the directly reflected light. So
he only looks at the remaining stray light. I do this test to decide if
the mirror is completely polished. So there should be some steps
following, incl. Foucault.
