My guess would be, he's using a compact led/laser
light source with a ronchi grating to inspect the
mirrors at the center of curvature. With experience
you can eyeball 1/8th wave correction by moving in and
out of focus and watching the pattern move, seeing
smoothness and zoning. Since they're producing maybe
1/4 wave at best (well, does anybody really know?)
this would more than suffice. The guy doing the
testing looks at many mirrors all of the same specs,
it doesn't take data reduction to do this...
