For Gugolz, temper by adding mineral oil to soften, or heating in a fairly
liquid state to harden.   If you add mineral oil be sure to mix well.  One
spare, 1" diameter capful of mineral oil will significantly soften about 1
pound of Gugolz.

You can also temper Gugolz by mixing different grades.  For working at 70 to
78 degree room temperatures, I use a mixture of 25% Gugolz55 and 75%
Gugolz64.  This produces what I perceive as an exactly in-between hardness,
"Gugolz59.5" -- the numbers don't make sense, but the hardness does.  At
those temps, this is the hardest pitch that still presses readily and yet
does not chip too easily.  If you mix grades stir very, very well, scraping
the sides of the pan.
