The PICNIC array is easier to use than the old NICMOS arrays (which
were pretty easy to use, anyway). They're expensive, but the rest of
the hardware (dewar, electronics) will be expensive, too.
I used an array of Transputers (up to 16) in my design for the camera
electronics. They were a good choice for the early 90's, and fast
enough to do several frames per second. I wish I'd used TI DSPs;
they're fast and easier to program than Transputers.
