Drill 3 small holes in the ground about 2' deep and at the points where your
tripod feet are, drive a pipe in for a few feet, making the top of the pipe
about level with the ground and fill with concrete is what is being done and
I expect what everybody's been talking about.  After you get the concrete
leveled out, you should also put a dimple in the stuff so that the tripod
feet always go to the same spot and that is often done best with a metal
plate with a hole in it.
When making things like this in the north where the earth spends some time
frozen, you need to do things in a certain way or the product of your work
just comes out of the ground after a few years.  These actions of nature is
why New England fields seem to fill up with rocks after a few years - the
rocks are indeed getting pushed up out of the ground!
