Yeah, you just gave Richard more fuel in his fight to save us from the
'olde guarde'. ;-)

HOWEVER, most of what we do isn't ground breaking and we have methods
that have proven 'sufficient' in most cases.  I always try and keep an
open mind.  I look at this stuff and wonder how much of todays physics
will be looked at like this in 50 years or so.  Think of tommorows
physics jokes if the uncertainty principle is found to be false.....
