Hmm, why not adapt an obsolete 35mm back?  I'd venture that a mechanical 35mm
camera is still quite available, either a cheap SLR (Mamiya Secor comes to
mind) or extremely old, like the Nikkormat.  OTOH, the Nikon mounts are tough
to machine at the home shop machinist (HSM) level but it wouldn't be too tough
to take an old adapter ring or even commit antiquicide on an old lens.

Failing that, use of a camera that uses the quasi universal threaded mount
would be good.

I might have the ability to make a back, but I'd rather adapt what's freely
available.
